The area around Morsum on the island of Sylt is rich in archaeological sites, particularly prehistoric burial mounds, which bear witness to millennia of settlement. These burial mounds predominantly date from the Bronze Age (c. 1700 to 500 BC) and the Viking Age (c. 800 to 1066 AD).

A notable example is a burial mound in Morsum, in which archaeologists have discovered a total of 35 burials. This illustrates the repeated use of such mounds over generations.

Another important burial mound near Morsum is the so-called Munkhoog. Although this burial mound was damaged by military installations during World War II, it remains an important testament to Sylt's prehistoric burial culture.

These burial mounds are not only archaeologically significant but also characterize the landscape around Morsum. They offer hikers and cyclists the opportunity to delve into the island's early history and experience the cultural significance of these sites.
