The Vinalopó River, despite having little importance as a fluvial resource, has considerable historical value within what was the culture of its ancient inhabitants. Its slopes have been inhabited by ancestors of our town since the Eneolithic, and it has always been a geographical point of some importance, because if it was used in antiquity as a defense ditch, it also had its utility in the surrounding orchard, taking advantage of its low flow for irrigation through ditches.

As it passes through the city it forms a wide ravine which is known by the popular name of "la rambla".

Beautiful walking opportunities in Elche along the Río Vinalopó, also worth a look is the river itself, part of which the banks are painted by artists.

You can walk all the way along the "river" in Elche. The dry part is painted, although most of the paintings are no longer clearly visible. Beautiful part of Elche, under bridges, along parks....
