The Königsstein is an old landmark on the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. It lies at an altitude of 792 m on Sauweg and consists of 300 million years old mica schist. The name comes from "Königswarthischer Stein", the border mark of the Bohemian rule Königswarth, whose possession reached to this stone.
Koenigstein, also known as "Breiter Stein" at 785 m above sea level, is, geologically speaking, a 350-million-year-old block of predominantly Cambrian banded and mica schists of the Arzberg series. Due to its location, however, it came early to an important political significance. It is considered the oldest natural boundary mark of the region. wandern-in-neualbenreuth.de
