Turning your gaze upstream along the municipal road that leads to the hamlet of Zolezzi, you can see the great face among the vegetation. In 1965, during an inspection by the Municipality of Borzonasca for the construction of the carriage road, they uncovered this incredible representation. All the local newspapers reported the news on the front page, including the Corriere Mercantile, which came out with an article on the subject on February 1 of that year.
The sculpture was initially interpreted as an effigy of Christ. According to this theory, it would be a vow made by the Benedictine monks for the Christianization of the valley. This event would place the making of the Face in the Middle Ages. In support of this hypothesis there is a legend according to which, once a year, the inhabitants of the valley used to gather in front of the sculpture to venerate and thank the Lord. According to the legend, when the friars left the monastery also the tradition declined and the Face was forgotten.
