The Clausthal Flood Ditch is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Harz Water Regale” and is today an idyllic hiking trail along the beautiful and formerly handcrafted water system that supplied the mines in the Upper Harz.

😎The Clausthal Flood Ditch is a 4,120-meter-long water ditch in the Upper Harz. It runs along the eastern slope of the Bruchberg through a very water-rich area. The ditch taps into the upper reaches of the Sieber and various smaller tributaries of the Oder, among others.
The Clausthal Flood Ditch was completed in 1827. It has a hydraulic capacity of more than 100 liters of water per second. The ditch carries this water to the hub and thus ultimately to the dam ditch. This once channeled it further to the water wheels of the mines in and around Clausthal. The Clausthal Flood Ditch is an outstanding technical masterpiece. It also shows the enormous effort that was made in the past to supply energy to the Harz silver mines.
