The Rock of Castellfollit de la Roca is a geological landmark of the town of Castellfollit de la Roca in Catalonia. It is a basalt cliff that rises about 50 meters above the Fluvià river and is 1 km long.
The rock was formed in the Tertiary period by volcanic eruptions when liquid lava came into contact with cold water from the river and solidified. Over time, the river eroded the rock and formed the characteristic gorge that exists today.
Today the rock of Castellfollit de la Roca is a tourist attraction and a popular destination for hiking, climbing and nature observation.
