This locality southwest of Leudersdorf lies on the northwest flank of the Hillesheimer Kalkmulde. This is one of 10 limestone troughs in the Eifel that form in a zone running from north to south, the so-called Eifeler-Nord-Süd-Zone.
The folded middle and upper Devonian rock layers of the Eifelkalkmulden emerged from flat, calcareous precipitations and deposits of the Devon Sea.
