In 1913 the festival hall was completed according to plans by the city architect Eugen Frielingsdorf. The manufacturer Josef Kaiser, whose company Kaiser’s coffee shop was based in Viersen, made a significant contribution to the realization of the project with a donation of 130,000 marks on the occasion of his appointment to the commercial council. Until 1925 the building was also used as a gym. A redesign that took place in 1939/1940 according to plans by Carl Staudt was also intended to provide opportunities for political events by the NSDAP. The building was only slightly damaged in the war and was used again soon after the end of the war. It has been renovated and rebuilt several times in the course of its history. In 1997 the festival hall was extensively renovated and refurbished (internal and external appearance, new seating and technology), made possible by the support of the festival hall support association.
It celebrated its centenary on December 7, 2013.
