      Nestled between numerous lakes lies the municipality of Groß Köris. There is a lot to discover in the historic center. The landmarked drawbridge clears the waterway between Teupitzer and Köriser waters every hour. It was built in 1786 and demolished by German soldiers in 1945. In 1958, the present drawbridge was built, which was operated by hand until 1977.

      The canal separated the so-called "headscarf quarter" from the "hat district". While mainly farmers lived north of the canal, weekend guests, intellectuals and rich citizens settled along the Seebadstraße in the southern part. These came especially from the beginning of the 20th century from Berlin.

      On the Seebadstraße it is worth taking a look at the pavement. The bricks, edged in herringbone pattern, testify to a brisk brick industry at the end of the 19th century. The bright, ocher color of the bricks suggests that they come from the former brickworks in Klein Köris and Löpten.

        Groß Köris was located on the large Moddersee, also known as the "village lake" at the time. The Schulzensee, today surrounded on all sides by the villas and houses belonging to Köris, was then far away from the village, in the middle of the forest. "The larger farmers" were allowed to fish on the village lake as "foot fishing", i.e. "with a fishing rod and small nets". A certain amount of the proceeds had to be delivered to the rulers.
        The taverns in Landsberg remained the landlords for Groß Köris until 1644.
