Julius Moses was born the son of Johannes Gottlob Moses, who served as cantor and schoolmaster in the community of Marieney. The originally Jewish family can be found in Prague in the mid-16th century. [1] The family name and its change by Julius in Mosen in 1844 was again and again cause to connect the family with the Jewish religion up to the most recent present. Father and grandfather were in Marieney and Arnoldsgrün Protestant pastors and cantors. In addition, there was no Jewish community in Marieney in which Julius Mosen's father was said to have worked, as it was to be read in the magazine Free opinion on the occasion of his 200th birthday. Even the ancestors explored until the 16th century belonged to the Christian faith. He attended the Gymnasium in Plauen and then the University of Jena for a law degree. In Jena he joined in 1822 the fraternity Germania.
