At this point is the notice board for the Maurits Bridge. A beautiful group of seats right on the Dinkel invites you to take a break. Opposite is a cannon and an insect hotel.

This point is of great historical significance. Here Prince Maurits crossed the Dinkel with his troops. Objective: drive away the Spaniards.
It was 1597 when Prince Maurits arrived here with his troops: 9,000 infantry, 1,600 horses and heavy artillery.
The bridge at that time could not support the weight; a fortification was built from trees.

Legend has it that only 3 cannon salvos were needed to force the garrison of Ootmarsum to surrender.

Beautiful bridge with an impressive history. There is an information board at the bench, so you can learn something during your break. From the bench you have a view of a cannon that is on the other side of the water.
