Construction began in 1937 and was intended to be dedicated to the Holy Cross under the impression of the anniversary year of 1933. The finished church was consecrated in 1950. The pronounced structure of the walls is reminiscent of the strict forms of old basilicas. In 1962 the tower received five new bells. The Sermon on the Mount, the sacrament of baptism, the sacrament of the altar, the Eucharist and the sacrament of marriage are depicted in the four large arched windows.
