        When Crown Prince Friedrich stayed at this site on November 3, 1833, he exclaimed enthusiastically: "This landscape is one of the most beautiful in the Rhineland!"

        To commemorate the presence of the crown prince, the citizens of Manderscheid erected a column in a base made of volcanic stones in 1879, which comes from the Roman villa on Moseberg and has an inscription commemorating the important visit. [1]


        From 1805 to 1836, Wendelin Munich was a pastor in nearby Buchholz. The pastor was a great lover of nature and so he gradually began to develop the area around his church with paths on which he could read his breviary in peace. His favorite place became a spot high above the Liesertal, from where he had a wonderful view of Manderscheid and the two castles. He could enjoy the view from a bench.

        On November 3, 1833, the Crown Prince and later King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia visited the Eifel. Pastor Munich proudly showed the lord his "beautiful view".

        When a beautification association was founded in Manderscheid in 1869, it was decided to also work on the site laid out by Pastor Munich on the other side of the Lieser, because where else did you have such a great view of the up-and-coming Manderscheid up to the Moseberg.
        In 1872 the association carried out its first work on the Belvedere. 40 thalers were spent on building the first pavilion.

        On June 11, 1879, a pillar from the Roman villa was erected at the foot of the Moseberg to commemorate the visit of the crown prince. It bears the inscription:

        THE KING FRIDR. WILLIAM IV
        ON DAY D. GOLD. WEDDING OF THE EMPEROR WILHELM
