At the top of Aljezur, this 10th century Moorish fortress watches over the city. Two towers still stand and complete the end of a long wall that has hardly been touched up since its construction.

The place is very popular for the panorama it reveals over the city to the east and the coast to the west. From this height, the sunsets are spectacular.

The Castelo de Aljezur was probably built by the Moors in the 9th century, conquered by the Christians in the Middle Ages, and destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. It can be visited, but the interior isn't particularly spectacular. The view of the surrounding area, however, is magnificent.

Aljezur Castle (Castelo de Aljezur) is a medieval ruin located on a hill above the old town of Aljezur in the Algarve, Portugal. It was originally built by the Moors in the 10th century and later conquered by the Christians in 1249. Today, you can see the remains of walls, towers, and a cistern, with stunning views over the valley and coast.
