In 2019, the vineyards of Hochgrail were able to take 2nd place at the ORF show 9 places - 9 treasures. With a length of 1.5 kilometers, the Hochgrail is the longest closed row of houses in Styria.
The Schilcher determines the region
He left a lasting mark on the entire region to this day. Schilcher production was particularly promoted by a prominent aristocrat, namely the "Styrian Prince" Archduke Johann (1782-1859), who was also the first mayor of the market town of Stainz: He established the first so-called "Schilcher Rebschule" and thus made a significant contribution to it that the Blaue Wildbacher grape was increasingly cultivated and planted.
Today the Blauer Wildbacher is cultivated on an area of about 460 hectares. And since the mid-1970s, there have been precise legal regulations as to which wine may be labeled and sold as Schilcher: a wine that was made from 100 percent Blue Wildbacher grapes that grew exclusively in Styria.
