The Salzwedel Museum was named after the German pedagogue and prehistorian Johann Friedrich Danneil. His real name was Johann Friedrich Dannehl and he was considered one of the co-founders of the three-period system in the 18th century.
The District Museum of the Hanseatic City of Salzwedel houses a multitude of significant exhibits dating back to the history of the northwestern Altmark region.
