The Alm is picturesquely situated in the valley of the Rote Valepp, between Spitzingsee and the forester's lodge Valepp. Between 1920 and 1927, this was the starting point of the Bockerlbahn, which was built to transport 300,000 cubic meters of windblown wood. An information board of today's Bockerlbahnweg reminds of this and shows on two impressive old photos how the area of the Waitzinger Alm was used at that time as a wood storage and transhipment point.
