At the lighthouse of Capelinhos a remarkable visitor center has been set up, in which one can take a close look at the history of the Capelinhos. You can also learn a lot about other volcanoes such as Stromboli or Kilauea. An information center about the Azores and volcanism has been created underground with interesting architecture. I wish I could come here with my students. We don't have anything that great. Admission for adults EUR 10 (as of October 2021)

The museum was built underground and fits in very well with the barren volcanic landscape. If you approach from above, the main thing you notice is the former lighthouse, as well as the circle and triangle in the earth - really wonderfully designed!
The museum is also well worth seeing inside, with an interesting explanation of volcanism, a beautiful illustration of the tectonic plates and why there is so much volcanic activity in the Azores.
