    The idyllic village of Malchow was first mentioned in writing in 1147. The so-called Wends Crusade destroyed the Slavic castle and the associated temple of Malchow.

    A part of the city, the former Neu-Malchow, lies picturesquely on an island between the Malchower, the Plauer and the Fleesensee. The island is connected to the mainland by an earthen causeway (raised in 1846) and a swing bridge. This area received Schwerin city rights in 1235.
    From the earth embankment you have fantastic views of the old town and the monastery.

                    The scenery is actually beautiful and would invite you to linger. But unfortunately, day and night, all the traffic thunders over the dam and the island (both cobblestones). It's basically a busy road. A real shame for the place.
