The first ski jump of the Brilon ski club was opened in 1933 in Hellehohl in the southern part of the city. The ideas of tourism and sport flowed into one another in the construction: the inrun for the jumpers was installed halfway up the tower in the architectural style of a lookout tower. The best-known winner on this hill was Erich Recknagel from Thuringia, who was an Olympic participant in 1928 and German ski jumping champion in 1930.
After the end of World War II, the dilapidated tower was not rebuilt and instead, after the club was re-established in 1952, a new ski jump was built. Since it was a natural ski jump and the inrun area had no steep incline, a 300 meter long inrun was required! But already in the following year an inrun scaffold was built, so that a suitable junior hill was available.
With the construction of the club's own ski lifts in the early 1960s, a third new ski jump was started in 1965 according to plans by Heini Klopfer. The inrun area of the 45 m ski jump was filled with earth masses from the construction of the city hospital and a small ski jump was built for the youngsters leading to the landing.
However, the construction of the ski jump remained controversial. Due to insufficient snow conditions, decreasing interest and the great effort for the preparation of the hill, the activities of the ski jumpers decreased until they came to a standstill in the mid 1970s. Structural remains of the ski jump are still visible today in the area of the Möhne spring.
