The impressive cathedral stands on a spacious square, so you can admire its full splendour. The Collegiate Church of St. Gallen was built between 1755 and 1766 and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The late baroque building with all its details amazes both from the outside and from the inside. St. Gallen Cathedral is on the Way of St. James.

St.Gallen Cathedral is both the parish church of the cathedral parish and the diocese church of the diocese of St.Gallen, which was founded in 1847. It stands where the Irish wandering monk Gallus built a hermitage in 612. The cathedral and the baroque monastery complex were built in the middle of the 18th century. In 1805, the newly founded canton of St.Gallen abolished the monastery and handed over the administration of church goods to the Catholic denomination. The cathedral forms the core of the Unesco World Heritage Site together with the abbey district, in particular with the abbey library and the abbey archive.
