The St. Anthony's Church dates from 1854-1856, but was built on the site where a first church had already stood at the end of the 12th century. That church was completely plundered during the religious wars at the end of the 16th century, both by the Beggars (who fought against Spanish/Catholic rule) and by malcontents (Spanish-minded Catholic nobles with their own army).
The current brick church has three naves.
On the side of the church (on the side of the Pastoor Verrieststraat) is the grave of author Stijn Streuvels (Frank Lateur) and his wife Alida Staelens. It was designed by their son Paul Lateur.
