When the sculptor Beier, who lives in Leukersdorf near Chemnitz, was commissioned by the office for architecture-related art in the mid-eighties to create a fountain as the new focal point of the Geithain market ensemble, he immersed himself in the archives and encountered a dispute dating back centuries. It seemed to him ideally suited as a subject for his fountain. "I thought it was nice that they gave me a free hand and said: Make a suggestion", Beier looks back on the beginnings.

The designs for the fountain and models provided a topic of conversation in the city, an exchange of ideas was important to Beier. "People have to accept the fountain too, I'll make it for them," he says. But in the end it failed, also due to the turmoil that the "turning point" brought with it.
