This is a stunning view of Chesil Bank, which is a 14 mile long bank of pebbles stretching from Abbotsbury to Portland Bill. It was formed naturally by long-shore drift and is the only natural connection between Portland and the mainland. It forms a natural sea wall for Portland Harbour, for many years a major Naval Base for the British Navy. Portland Harbour is probably my favorite place to windsurf. The prevailing South westerlies hop over Chesil Bank and blow across the harbour providing steady winds and flat water - ideal for speed sailing.

If you are going to sail in the harbour make sure you get a permit from the harbour authority else you will end up in court if you are caught without one. They are very strict!!
