In the Koningsbos you walk on winding sandy paths through mixed forest. The plants and trees grow here on dune soil. Although there are deciduous trees in the forest, the majority of the vegetation consists of pine trees.

This forest ("bos") was christened "Koningsbos" in 1976 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of King Baudouin's reign.
The plants and trees grow here on calcareous dune soil and damp subsoil, you can also find mushrooms (please do not collect or pick anything - nature reserve!). The fauna is rather limited, mainly you will see birds.

The Koningsbos is a mixed forest, but mainly pines grow here, more precisely: maritime pines. They form a dense year-round canopy under which most herbs and shrubs do not normally bloom. Even if the trunks look powerful and old - they are not that old. Because during the Second World War, the German occupiers felled the oldest and largest trees to strengthen the Atlantic Wall with the trunks. The locals referred to them as "Rommel asparagus".
