Anyone who walks attentively through the city, can always discover small corridors between the houses, these form a whole connection network on the old town island and lead through beautiful courtyards. It is worthwhile in any case, just new to explore one or the other gear!

"The Malerwinkel in Lübeck is a small green area on the edge of Lübeck's old town.
It is located on the west bank of the Trave on the (northern) Wallstrasse between Possehlstrasse and Dankwartsbrücke, southwest of the An der Obertrave/ Dankwartsgrube intersection, to which it is connected by the Dankwartsbrücke, a wooden footbridge. Historically, the area of 1,827 m² is an extension of the Lübeck ramparts between the city and the Katz Bastion.

In the 20th century, this spot became popular with painters and photographers because this angle gives a perspective southwest view of the Old Town, where the twin spiers of St. Mary's appear to be to the west of the spire of St. Peter's, when in fact they are a block to the east . Most of the time, the Dankwarts Bridge can be seen in the foreground.
In 1935 the Hamburg postcard publisher Hans Andres published a postcard view from the painter's corner. The then syndic of the Lübeck Chamber of Commerce and Industry Walter Schärffe, who was also the managing director of the Lübeck Tourist Association, included a slide with this view and this designation in his slide presentations about Lübeck in 1938/39. So far, this seems to be the first evidence of the use of the name.
A photograph by Wilhelm Castelli from 1964 combines photography and painting by showing a painter with an easel in the foreground, painting the view of the church towers that have just been restored.
In the second half of the 20th century, the name and motif found their way into travel guide literature as a popular motif for artists.
In the course of the urban reorganization of the west bank of the Obertrave, which led to the demolition of the existing warehouse buildings and the construction of new residential buildings north and south of the Malerwinkel, the association Malerwinkel Lübeck e.V. was founded in 2005, an initiative mainly by residents of the cathedral district to preserve the unobstructed view on the old town."
