A new world record was set when commissioning the then largest solar power plant with 6.3 megawatts at the end of October 2004 at the Dürrloh storage facility in Mühlhausen.

The area, which is covered by the solar system, is Aluvial land totaling 21.7 hectares. Aluvial land means landfilled land. During the construction of the RMD canal, which was opened in 1992, excavation was carried out at the Dürrloh up to a height of 8 meters. On this ecological compensation area 8000 plants were set, which are to form a hedge landscape.
The principle of the project: The American Powerlight system, developed by the corporation of the same name, is used. The collectors follow the course of the sun in a uniaxial tracking system. In the orientation of the suniest possible day, June 21 (beginning of summer) was taken as the basis. With this system, the yield is about 20 percent higher than with statically oriented solar panels.

Also on the other side of the canal was a solar park of Solvivo GbR on an area of 14.5 ha.
