"The old town church of Duisburg, the late Gothic basilica with the burial place of the cartographer and geographer Gerhard Mercator and the founding rector (1655) of the first Duisburg University Johannes Clauberg and with young life in old walls.

Its blackened spire is one of Duisburg's most visible landmarks: The Salvator Church next to the town hall dates from the 14th/15th century, the striking neo-Gothic spire from 1903/04. The Protestant church is also famous among lovers of church art for its magnificent window paintings, especially the Abraham window. The pulpit from the 16th century and the baptismal font from the 15th century are just two of the historical treasures worth mentioning. The memorial plaque for the well-known Duisburg cartographer Gerhard Mercator is also shown here.

It is the oldest church in the city of Duisburg and one of the most important churches on the Lower Rhine has received a new organ. The previous instrument had to be removed as part of the interior renovation. According to the experts in the field of monument preservation and the Protestant Church, the organ had to be removed. It turned out that removal, storage, repair and reinstallation would have cost an immense amount of money. At the same time, there was a risk that the technical construction of the instrument and the material properties of a large part of the pipes meant that it could not be guaranteed to function properly over the long term. On September 29, 2002, the time had finally come: the new organ was ceremoniously inaugurated.

The Salvator Church is the old city church in Duisburg and belongs to the Evangelical Parish of Alt-Duisburg. It was built on the site of an older Palatinate church in the 14th century on Duisburg's Burgplatz. Together with the Willibrordi Cathedral in Wesel, the church is one of the most important late Gothic church buildings on the right bank of the Lower Rhine.
