St. Felix - the brother Deo Gratias

Saint Felix was born in 1515 in Cantalice (Umbria, Italy), the son of poor peasants. Instead of being able to complete a proper school education, he soon had to contribute to the livelihood of the family with a job as a herding boy. Despite his pronounced piety, he did not start his spiritual career until late, at the age of almost 30, when he entered the Order of Capuchin in 1544. There he was given the task of an alms collector in Rome, because of his amiable simplicity Soon known throughout the city and the Roman population called him the "Brother Deo Gratias", because he thanked for all gifts with a "God blessed." After a serious illness, the beloved Capuchin brother died on May 18, 1587 in Rome In 1625 he was beatified by Pope Urban VII, canonised in 1712 by Pope Clement XI.

Around 1700, the first Capuchins were called to Neustadt. They chose St. Felix as their patron saint. A few years later, the magistrate fell seriously ill, but the monks were able to bring about the recovery of the judge after incessant invocations of St. Felix. The existing wooden chapel was soon too small for the numerous pilgrims who now flocked to the church. In 1765 the construction was finished and the church was ceremoniously opened.
