On the Herkenrode Abbey site, where the abbey church used to be, mimesis.architecten has realized the pavilion for the artwork 'The Quiet View' by Hans Op de Beeck.

The pavilion is a sober architectural volume in which the artist stages an 'infinite' view of a fictional landscape.

The inauguration of the artwork 'The Quiet View' is the final piece of years of renovation and conversion work on the Herkenrode Abbey site.

The Quiet View or Het Stille Uitzicht is a permanent artwork by Hans Op de Beeck that leads you through a long corridor to an observation room. Through a large window you can look out over a landscape sculpted to scale. It seems very deep thanks to a trompe-l’oeil constructed over fifteen meters in which the perspective is manipulated step by step. Mirrors on either side make it optically endlessly wide. The viewer is offered a view of an interpretation of a body of water with rocky islands and bare trees. If the viewer is receptive, as for example for the illusion of a landscape painting, this undeniably fictional outdoor space becomes a true experience.
