"The island of Spiekeroog is one of the few areas in Germany that can still offer an impressive starry sky that is hardly obscured by artificial lights. For this reason, Spiekeroog has now been officially recognized as a star island by the International Dark Sky Association (IDA). On Spiekeroog the stars can be clearly seen even in town. But where there are no artificial light sources to blind the eyes, the true splendor of the starry sky is revealed. On the paths through the dunes, on the beach, at the “dark place” below the Utkieker or the “ Sternenkieker place ” at the entrance to the dog beach, you discover the star-studded sky - in summer, autumn and winter the shimmering band of the Milky Way."
