The Katzenbuckel is an extinct volcano and with 626 m the highest mountain of the Odenwald. On the mountain stands the observation tower Katzenbuckel. It is the place of Katzenbuckelsees (ex quarry) and the path of the crystals (nature trail). The Katzenbuckel rises in the nature park Neckartal-Odenwald in the district of the municipality Waldbrunn. Its summit is located 3 km west of their nucleus and 4 km east-northeast of the core town of Eberbach am Neckar. Waldkatzenbach lies at the southeastern foot of the slope. For the origin of the word "Katzenbuckel" there are various unsecured explanations. According to one, the figure of the mountain should have reminded the inhabitants of the curved back of a cat. Others derive the mountain name from the tribal name of the Chatten, which once had their main settlement area in northern and central Hesse; He also lives on behalf of the state of Hesse, which is only three kilometers away.
