The Alsumer Berg replaces the former Alsum district. This was so largely destroyed during the Second World War and endangered by further subsidence, that it has decided not to rebuild, but from about 1954 to pour over it with rubble from the destruction of the city of Duisburg. The tram line 21 (from Oberhausen-Buschhausen here) and the Matena tunnel were thus also redundant and dismantled. Today, the now wooded heap presents itself as a walk-in grand viewpoint over the steel works between the districts Beeck and Schwelgern, but mostly with trees in the foreground; therefore best in the vegetation-free time.
