MYSTERIOUS SIGNS OF THE TIMES

Menhir Eselsbachtal

The two larger boulders seem to have once belonged together, as you can easily see from the broken edges. The oval cross-section suggests that it was a menhir. It may have been a waymarker for the path that ascended from the Eselsbachtal.
Apparently the stone was destroyed by human hands, just like the restored menhir at the Meisenberg stone avenue.
The meaning of the cut marks running across the break edges is unclear, e.g
but show human influence. The destruction could have taken place in the course of Christianization in the early Middle Ages. It is said that the old pagan legacies were largely removed during this time.
