The lime tree (summer lime tree) is a natural monument of supra-regional importance, as it is one of the oldest and thickest lime trees in Lower Saxony.

"The appearance of the linden tree is bizarre. Grates have been inserted into the openings of the hollow trunk. The tree is said to have been planted at a place of execution in 1135, the year construction of the cathedral began. It is not known whether it is actually almost 900 years old. Today the tree no longer grows in height, but in width. The trunk is bricked up on the inside. The lowest branch extending from the trunk at a height of 1.5 m is supported against breaking. In addition, wire ropes hold the tree together. It has been there since 1956 a natural monument; in 1975 a tree care measure was carried out by a tree surgeon."

The Kaiser-Lothar-Linde stands south of the imperial cathedral. The tree is a summer bark, which was bred by Emperor Lothar III. was planted on the occasion of the laying of the cornerstone of the cathedral in 1135. The tree is one of the oldest and "thickest" lime trees in Germany. In the time of the Middle Ages court was held here and later held dance festivals.
The tree has a maximum diameter of 4.20 m - with a circumference of 13 m.
The eight-stemmed crown is 19 m high and has a diameter of 26 m.
Since the year 1956 the lime tree is under nature protection.
