The ancient theater of Lugdunum is a remarkable vestige of Roman times. Built in the 1st century, it could accommodate up to 10,000 spectators. Today it offers a unique setting for cultural events and outdoor shows.

The theater was built in the 1st century BC. Built in 500 BC during the reign of Emperor Augustus. At that time it had a diameter of 90 meters. It was built on the side of the Fourvière hill, which overlooks the city. Some of the stones used came from far away, imported from Glanum, a town that used to be in what is now the Bouches-du-Rhône region.
