On the Ellrich church hiking trail you can get to know all 10 churches in the Ellrich parish. Stamp box number 6 is located right next to the church.
St. Johannis Church is unique in the southern Harz region due to its structure as a transept church. The altar comes from the Runstedt church, which fell victim to open-cast lignite mining. You can read a short note about this in the church hiking trail booklet.

The location of the church in Woffleben is quite old, but it has always been rebuilt. Today's church was built in the 18th century as a transept church. The altar comes from a church in Runstedt, which was demolished because of the lignite mining in GDR times. (Further information can be found in the handwritten local chronicle.)
