    De Gooyer is a tower mill on the Amsterdam Fünenkade, on the Zeeburgerstraat / corner Sarphatistraat, between Nieuwe Vaart and Singelgracht. According to some sources, the mill owes its name to the fact that the mill looks over Het Gooi because of its height. Other sources report that the name comes from two former owners who came from Gooiland. De Gooyer consists of two stacked wooden squares on a stone substructure. The mill belongs to the municipality of Amsterdam and can not be visited.

        e Gooyer is a windmill in Amsterdam between Funenkade and Zeeburgerstraat. At 26.6 meters, it is the tallest wood mill in the Netherlands. It is registered as a national monument. The names date from around 1609 when the mill belonged to Claes and Jan Willemsz, two brothers from Gooiland.

            Windmills and Dutch history are closely linked. At its peak, there were 9,000 windmills in the Netherlands. In pre-industrial times their functions were diverse. They ground grain, sawed wood, made paper, pressed oil and even drained entire polders. The first polder mills were created at the beginning of the 15th century. These mills emptied lakes and ponds and thus created new habitable cultural landscapes. These early experiments grew into large-scale reclaimed land. At that time, mills were an advanced way to generate energy. They played a crucial role in the Netherlands in the 17th century.
            Since 1983, Brouwerij 't IJ has been located next to the De Gooyer flour mill, where only specialty beers are brewed. All the brewery's draft beers are brewed on the Funenkade, next to the mill. The brewery's tasting room is also located at this location. Drink a nice beer here before continuing the walk.
