After the founding of the Sankt Zeno monastery near Reichenhall, Archbishop Conrad of Salzburg handed it over to “St. Zeno and his friars the estate and the forest of Inzella". As early as 1195, after the construction of the St. Michael's Church, Inzell became an independent parish and estate after it was separated from Vachendorf. The seat of the Hofmark, Inzell Castle, fell victim to secularization and was demolished in 1811. In the course of administrative reforms in Bavaria in 1818, Inzell became an independent political municipality. As can be seen in the coat of arms, mining and smelting of ores was an important source of income for the village of Inzell. Lead and zinc were first mined on the Hochstaufen and from 1665 onwards for almost 150 years on the Inzeller Kienberg, the northern slope of the Rauschberg. The ore was melted in what is now the district of Schmelz.
With effect from December 1, 1996, the Ramsen part of the municipality was reclassified from the western neighboring municipality of Ruhpolding to Inzell.

The view of Inzell is beautiful from many spots. The mountains and lush meadows, the beautiful houses and gardens. A hike is always worthwhile.
