        The Pader is a special river. The 200 “Borne” of the Pader, to which the old imperial and bishop city of Paderborn owes its name, arise directly in the city center of Paderborn. But after just four kilometers, in the Schloß Neuhaus district, the Pader has to give up its name at the confluence with the Lippe. This makes it the shortest river in Germany. On its short path from the sources to the mouth, it is accompanied by a green band of river meadows, of which the part between Padersee and Neuhaus Castle, which was renatured as part of the State Horticultural Show and has since been called “Paderaue”, is undoubtedly the most beautiful and interesting. The varied juxtaposition of flowing water, calm shallow water areas, alternately moist bank strips and wet meadows with their typical vegetation offers an ideal home for a wide variety of animal species. Bridges and footbridges along the waters invite you to observe the lively life of insects, amphibians and other small creatures in and around the water.
