One of around 100,000 war memorials in Germany. Since the wars of liberation at the beginning of the 19th century, such memorials have been erected for the fallen. On the one hand they should comfort the relatives, on the other hand they should be a memorial for peace.

As a memorial to the many dead, such monuments or war memorials are still very important today. "Now, Lord, you let your servant depart in peace, as you have said..." says the so-called "Hymn of Simeon" (Luke's Gospel, Chapter 2, Verse 29). However, the people remembered here did not depart in peace, but became victims of war and tyranny.
Many places and monuments that one encounters on the way are a testimony - still significant and current today - to the horror of war and tyranny. They all have two essential functions, and this is the case for every generation:
-1- Commemorate and remember the victims
-2- Remind people to keep the peace
