Burgvey, the Hombusch Estate Power and Pumping Station

Electrical engineering from 1908: The engine house in Mechernich-Burgfey is a technical monument of the highest order. Originally a combined water-lifting and hydroelectric power station, it was powered by water. A millrace diverts the water from the Veybach stream, which drives a large waterwheel when needed. This waterwheel was completely restored in 1999 with the support of the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation and the Euskirchen Historical Society. The technical equipment (wheel mechanism, generator, regulator, electric motor, switchboard) from 1908 are impressive examples from the early days of electrification in the Eifel region. The "horizontal differential plunger pump," still operational today, was the heart of what was probably the smallest waterworks in Germany.
