Châtenois is a small town located on the Alsace Wine Route, in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. The origins of Châtenois date back to the time of the Celts, but the traces of their passage are limited to the discovery of a few scattered objects. It was during the time of the Romans that the town truly entered history under the name of Castinetum (a place planted with chestnut trees).
