The nameless cross

The torso of the wayside cross could never be reconstructed. It is clear, however, that the founder or the executing stone carver must have had a specific cause. Many road crosses were created, for example, as journeymen or masterpieces by stone carvers who completed their craft training or found bread and work here in the heyday of Britten stone carving between the 17th and 19th centuries. It is no coincidence that historians speak of the “Britten Stone Cross Nest in the Black Forest High Forest”. The Steinhauerweg illuminates the unique stone carving history of Britten im Hochwald and, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the natural work and building material made of pure quartz sand.
