After it was completed in 1611, the "van de bus" rifle guild, called Kloveniers because of their coat of arms, moved into the building.
The house was later used by the Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) until 1795. After the occupation by French troops, it was used as a military hospital from 1795.
In the meantime, a grand cafe, cinema and outdoor catering in the garden have been accommodated in the building.

The Kloveniersdoelen in Middelburg can be found on the street Achter de Houttuinen. The Kloveniersdoelen were built in the first half of the seventeenth century as a training area for the kloveniers. In the seventeenth century, kloveniers were shooters who shot from the can. One of the most famous paintings in the world, Rembrandt's “Night Watch”, depicts the canyons of Amsterdam. The Kloveniersdoelen of Middelburg has a typical Flemish facade characterized by the red and white painted shutters.
After the shooter left the building, the building housed a military hospital and an inn. Since 2013, a catering facility has been located in the building again. There is also a small cinema in the building. This cinema has room for almost a hundred people. The cinema mainly shows Art House films.

In the Middle Ages, three civic guards were built in Middelburg one after the other, the St. Sebastian civic guard for the long arch, the St. Joris civic guard for the cross or foot arch and the rifle guard, named after the cloverleaf Kloveniers. Bus sniper was also a common name. This militia was founded in 1509 and initially used a militia court on the south side of Dam Square. However, this location was insufficient and there was a need for both a larger building and a shooting range. In order to achieve this, the city council set 700 Flemish pounds on May 5, 1607 (one pound was worth about six Dutch guilders) to build a new militia yard at the end of the Langeviele. The Domburgse Watergang, which ran across this site, was arched by the city in 1610. The building was completed in 1611 and the Kloveniers could move into it. [
