The picturesque Bukchon Hanok Village is located in a hilly area north of the Cheonggyecheon River between two royal palaces, Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace.
Bukchon means "northern village," and a hanok is a traditional wooden house.

The area would be nice to look at, but the houses are not a museum, but a residential area. There are lots of signs to indicate this. The rules are that visitors are only allowed between 10am and 5pm, never on Sundays, and preferably without making a sound. This creates a strange atmosphere when groups of tourists wander through the streets in a more or less regulated manner.
