The Sausage Catchers – 1995

The bronze sculpture “Wurstaufholer” is a reminder of the early beginnings of the carnival in Gescher, from which the carnival parades later emerged. Its unveiling was the first highlight of the foolish session of 1995/96. Hundreds were present at the celebratory act on November 11th, 1995. In a very prominent location in This bronze sculpture was erected in the central city center.

In the first week, one of the sausages disappeared from the Schneese. But which Gescheraner wants to have such a trophy in the party room? Everyone knows the work of art and knows about the wrongful act. The popularity and acceptance of the group of figures among the population makes some citizens keep a keen eye on the sausage catchers.

For years, the sculpture has also been the meeting point for groups of tourists when walking through the bell city. The initiative for this work of art came from 2 ex-princes, Franz Horst and Willi Korf. They inspired not only their colleagues but also the city's neighborhoods. In a unique campaign, the two collected money for the work of art from the entire population and businesses.
