The sun shines through the trees on the 4,500 boulders and rubble stones that frame a circular path that leads through the Sachsenhain. In 782 the Verden blood court is said to have taken place there, in which Charlemagne had 4,500 Saxons executed, the leading figures in the Süntel Battle. The National Socialists used this background in 1934 to create an anti-Christian memorial with the boulders. And that's despite the fact that there isn't really any evidence of the blood dish.
Old houses that stood in the catchment area of the facility were used by the SS as a training facility. In order to build this training facility, a satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp was created in Verden. After the Second World War, the Evangelical Youth leased the houses and set up the Evangelical Youth Courtyard in Sachsenhain as a conference and education center.
Unfortunately, the Sachsenhain, which is accessible to visitors, is still a place of pilgrimage for right-wing extremists and neo-Nazis. In contrast, information boards explain the history of the grove.

The foundation stone was laid in 1934 by the National Socialist Reich leadership, who wanted to build a national assembly and memorial site here.
The historical background for this was the tradition that 4,500 Saxons were killed by the Frankish king Karl (who later called himself Charlemagne). Since there are no reliable records, there are legends about the so-called “Verden Blood Court.” The buildings and grounds at that time were used for training courses for the SS and the Hitler Youth, and later refugees were housed.
The area has been used by the Protestant youth since 1950.
There is space for up to 126 guests who can be accommodated in four guest houses and two apartments.
There are information boards that provide detailed information about the past and present.
