"... The Hallerbach is an orographic right tributary of the Holtebach in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is 3.0 km long.
The Hallerbach has its source in the Senne within the Moosheide nature reserve, not far from the "Hövelsenne" service area on the A33 federal motorway. The sources of the Ems are also in this area. Like the majority of the streams that have their source in this region, the body of water flows in a south-westerly direction and first crosses the Hövelhofer forest, which adjoins the Moosheide, in a near-natural and meandering floodplain. Finally, the Hallerbach flows into the Holtebach, which runs almost parallel, on the right side in a wooded area.
The rust-red coloring of the water in the source area of the Hallerbach is characteristic, which is caused by iron hydroxide that has compacted to bog iron ore deposits in places in the subsoil. For this reason, the area is also known as "Rosenlake", which can be interpreted as "red lake". In contrast to the neighboring streams, some of which have formed deep trough valleys, the Hallerbach has only slightly cut into its surroundings in its headwaters. The body of water largely has a very natural, meandering floodplain accompanied by alder quarries. Above the source area, in which there are also inland dunes and shifting sand formations, the stream continues as a forking dry valley. ..."
