"... The Kermelbach has its headwaters in Appelsiepen, near the Kermelbach estate, Im Bruch road, north of Westende, Herdecke. It rises at an altitude of around 214 m above sea level.
The stream flows underground, twisted under a riding arena, then reappears on the surface from a pipe and then runs in a westerly direction, slightly curved and deeply deepened in a hollow valley, first through grassland, then through fallow land. It is fed by several small tributaries on its left side.
It now enters the Kermelbachtal nature reserve and shortly thereafter passes the municipal boundary from Herdecke to Witten. It then flows through the nature reserve in a north-northwest direction and finally flows north-east of the Große Borbach road at an altitude of about 140 m above sea level. NHN. in from the left into the Borbach approaching from the east. .."
